Petals

by AngelsTears   Sep 19, 2011

Petals-
Slowly falling before my eyes
Just past my fingertips;
My hands too cold to touch
The warmth of the petals
Lost out of my reach.
I think it is easier to watch the petals fall
Then to waste time
Reaching
Grasping
For something that never lasts.
People always try to grasp more petals
Then their hands can hold,
Crushing the petals into something
That never was.
I wonder if anyone could see me now
Would they know,
Would they see,
Past the falling petals
To what is underneath?
I wonder
If enough petals will fall
To cover me completely?
But no,
The petals will always remain
Just out of reach
From my cold, cold hands.
A petal falls between grasping fingers
And for a moment
There is a hot warmth-
But the petal has fallen,
And as before
My hands are cold,
Reaching,
For petals.
