Nothing Less Than a Memory

by HealingHearts   Oct 9, 2011

You are nothing more than an empty promise left with me,
A fading shadow on the street,
A dream of what we should be;
You are nothing less than a memory.

A lingering breath and a broken sigh
Is all that's left for you and I.
It's not always on the outside that I cry,
'Cause hurt is a four letter word, and love is a four letter lie.

You remember that game we used to play,
"I love you more" is what we'd say,
It makes me lonely to think of those days.
I suppose I won, anyway.

I hold this blade up to my skin.
So easy, so quick, just stab it in.
But I put it down. My hand is shaking,
But I can never let you win.
