I Once Was the Fool

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Oct 19, 2011

Liars lie
cheaters cheat
players play
heart breakers break hearts

a touch can make you give in
a look can make you scream inside
a kiss can make your body fire up
but a memory can make or break you

what happens when there are no more stars
what happens when the rain is frequent
when smiles are non-existent
will the world die like mine has

a ringing voice serenades me
not in a good way, no doubt
I wish it would cease to be anything
so I can love another person peacefully

fear my lips not, he once said
though fear struck me like thunder's friend
if I look within, will I have an epiphany
and realize he only took a quarter of my pride

in my mind's eye, I told myself
that he stole my life from me
and no matter how many tears I cried
it would never cross his mind how much he's hurt me

nevertheless, he didn't take all of me
if I stop listening to my shattered heart
maybe I can soon be stronger than I once was
and he wouldn't cross my mind like I haven't
