Do Things Right

by MaAr   Dec 16, 2011

Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree
As she asked me for a hug
So I held her like it used to be
A boy in love, no longer a thug

We laughed and smiled like the old days
Without fighting and arguing at all
Although the sky had no sun rays
Her laugh and smile brightened it all

We spoke for many hours without any care
Not thinking we're both tied to someone else
No thought of consequences that might flare
No thought at all, we just didn't care

We hoped the night would never end
We didn't want to leave each other
But life goes and we're just friends
We don't want to hurt each other

The clock struck 2 hours past midnight
Just like in a children's book
I had to leave and do things right
I couldn't get caught up on this hook

And as much as I didn't want to
I told her she had to go
She looked into my eyes and said "I know"
And yet still she didn't move

I held her hand and said "please go"
She touched my face and said "I know"
I said "I want you to stay but you must go"
She said "I know darling I know, I wanna stay too but unfortunately you too must go."

She kissed my cheek and then took off.
