A path to nowhere

by Anna Stephens   Jan 19, 2012

A path to nowhere
the road most trod
one single, solitary soul
on the edge where light meets dark

hollow shell of humankind
no past, no future
adrift somewhere between
the shore and sea of life

profound the sadness of this heart
no comfort for a weary traveler
heavy footsteps following the trail
leading slowing to that unknown

only mountains too high to climb
rivers of tears too deep to cross
nothing left to mark this life
the tide of living has left no trace
