My life's pages...

by Matthew Schut   Jan 26, 2012

I slowly flip through the pages,
some are not quite filled,
while others are over loaded,
so many dreams left unfilled.

I start when I was a baby,
kicking and screaming all day,
longing for my parent's affection,
wishing I knew the words to say.

As the pages go on,
I turn to my childhood,
picking my dad for show and tell,
proudly in front of class, we stood.

My teenage years were full of sports,
every evening I was away from home,
on the weekends I would sit in my room,
cutting myself and feeling alone.

The next phase was college,
where I was able to find 'me',
trying to grow into a man,
hoping that people were proud of me.

Now I'm at the years after college,
so many choices that I have made,
I wonder daily if I made the right ones,
back in Michigan, I should have stayed.

So now I am in a cross road,
not really sure where to turn,
but I know that it will get better,
and a lesson has been learned.

Whatever road we take, it's always important to learn from experience ... I guess you are learning. I miss the carefree days of school and college when taking decisions wasn't so tough.
    Beautiful write.

    Woooow Matt !!
This is like going throught the album of your life, something that alot of us can relate to, each of those different phase we reach to, and all of the feeling we live in each and everyone of them. But those two lines hit me the most as they also describe what I went through exactly at that time.

    "The next phase was college,
where I was able to find 'me',"
    ^^
OMG!!! Thats were I found "ME" too, thats were my true identity was finally shaped.

    Amazing piece my friend.

Wow Matt this poem realllly moved me! The way you told your life story was so powerful and it was really inspiring, despite the sad parts. This poem is filled with raw emotion, and I really felt everything you expressed.

I love how at the end you said you're not sure where you're going but you know everything will be okay :) And I know it will!!

This poem is amazing and so well-written!! Worth a nomination! :)
