The Prayer

by bob   Jan 31, 2012

There are those who fail to play by rules
They believe they're deity, but they are fools
They have no pride, they have no soul
They use force and fear to gain control

So how do we deal with these spawn from hell
And clean them from the land in which we dwell
It cannot be left to the young, the old, the weak
Once again the task falls to the soldier meek

And with a lion's heart the soldier bold
Takes up the challenge, does what he's told
Does not question, he volunteered
Struggles on until the evil's cleared

So what were we doing with our life
When he was dealing with wickedness and strife
While we were well fed, safe at home and warm in bed
He was cold and hungry, with bombs and bullets overhead

Some feel that there is no debt that's owed
To the Soldier who upheld the code
To protect the young, the old, the weak
But they are wrong so I will speak

You didn't ask for praise or gold
You didn't ask your story told
All you gained was self esteem
A proud member of a special team

Without your sacrifice evil would have won
Thank you Soldier for all you have done
And while I'm safe at home, I'll say this prayer
God please protect our Soldiers everywhere
