Beware the Animal Kingdom

by Anna Stephens   Feb 22, 2012

I sincerely wish the noble crows
had kept their feet to themselves.
Instead of tramping around by eyes
like an army of vicious elves.

The turkeys, too, can keep their necks.
I have one of my own.
Next I suppose will be vultures
to pick my bleached-out bones.

And the spiders who weave their tiny webs
implanted on my cheeks
are making it very difficult
to look youthful, sexy and sleek.

Never have I ever
assaulted an innocent crow.
And some of my best friends are turkeys.
I'm a non-violent person, you know.

I'm sure I could hold it together
Look younger and smashing and then some
If it weren't for these sneaky attacks
from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Very funny Anna. If we all can embrace getting older with the same outlook and humour you have shown here then it won't seem so bad. Made me smile!

Omg Anna, this is hysterical. I loved the humor you used in bestowing our aging on the animal kingdom. What a riot! I love funny poetry but this goes above and beyond.
