That Moment

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 31, 2012

That moment.....
when your birthday
corners you into
indecision,
and you're holding
a fistful of stringed hats,
but you can't seem
to find the one to
wear it.

Sixteen candles
yet how can you wish
for the unknown-
the chasm bleeding
inside of you?

Lights flare
sparks on the wall
imagined shadows &
claps subside,
everything stops
echoing.....

That moment....
when you blow
just one candle
harder than the rest,
so whoever is watching
will know-
all you want
is to finally
be with him,
though you've
never known his name,
you can only wish.

And wish you will
until that moment
resurrects....
and you're not left
holding your own
birthday
in the palm of your
desperate heart.
