The allure of the timid moon had barely made its way through the clouds to give way to sunrise
She laid on her bed transfixed to the simple patterns on the ceiling awaiting sleep
Her curly hair laid strewn about her shoulders in exasperation of her restlessness
It was here that creatures of the mind would fight for her attention
It was here that she thought, in anger but the ceiling offered no comfort
Never did time seem as daunting and precious
Outside her window, the trees have freed their burdens, in preparation of winter
It was all too familiar, she knew it well and understood its plight
Laughter of friends, scowls of enemies, years of memories
Unable to change the cards, she wondered of the journey ahead
Final words have been spoken and chapters become past
Once more, forced to begin a new one, fate has no justice
Still the ceiling offered no sympathy, just a mocking silence
The sunrise intrudes into her bedroom as if in reassurance
For the first time that night, a smile made its away across her still expression
There is beauty, There is hope, There is a new beginning
Doors don't close until the final breath, change brings opportunity
Her path unclear yet, but for the moment, the creatures of the mind lay still
And with that her eyelids surrendered its will.
