Rememberence undone

by Lily Ashford   Sep 2, 2012

Remember the day
You first rode a bike
Or picked flowers in a field
Or flew a purple kite

Remember your first kiss
And how nervous you were
With the girl or the boy
You had liked for a year

Recall the first time
You first scrapped your knee
And your mother kissed it better
And you went back up the tree

Or remember the time
You cut your own hair
And your girlfriend laughed
So much you couldn't bare.

Now stop for a moment
And think of these times
Think of your family
And all of their lives

And now think of everyone
Who gave you that gift
Of free speech and freedom
The life you have lived

The men and women
Who all gave their lives
To keep us all safe
In our beds at night

Think of the times
You've spoke your mind
Or questioned a teacher
Or didn't feel kind

Be thankful to them
Don't waste your life
Remember them always
Remember their fight.
