Drink&Drive.

by EmilyAnn   Sep 10, 2012

We were doing our hair and makeup,
Trying our best to look pretty.
Getting ready for a good night,
Down town in the city.

Before we left the house,
We drank a few cold ones.
Had a couple of shots too,
The fun had begun.

We were all feeling a little tipsy,
Feeling beyond just right.
We soon left the house,
Ready for an amazing night.

I was sitting shot gun,
And my friends were tagging along.
We were jamming to the beats,
Singing our favorite songs.

Sooner then we knew it,
We were on the dance floor.
Dancing together and having a blast,
Drinking shots because we wanted more.

Our words were slurring, eyes blood shot,
We were stumbling all over the place.
We were acting straight crazy,
Laugh in each others faces.

Leaving the club hugging each other,
We finally got into the car.
We thought we could make it home,
Since it wasn't that far.

My two friends were past out in the back,
I kept dozing off while my friend drove.
Everything was beyond blurry,
I could barely see the road.

I asked my friend if she was okay,
I felt the car zigzag from side to side.
She told me everything was alright,
I soon closed my eyes.

We were half way home,
That's when I heard a scream.
I jumped out my sleep,
Wishing it was a dream.

My friend lost control,
We were heading right towards a ditch.
We were so scared and nervous,
We didn't even flinch.

The car flipped and flipped,
I couldn't believe my eyes.
It all happened so fast,
All I could do was cry.

I took off my seat belt,
To make sure everyone was okay.
I knelt down in front of the car,
And I just prayed.

The two in the back were fine,
The driver ended up near the trees.
I checked to feel her pulse,
And I dropped to my knees.

I rushed to my cell phone,
And I dialed 911.
The dispatcher said someone would be there shortly,
I couldn't believe the damage that was done.

That very night I lost my best friend,
I lost a part of me forever.
But I know one day again,
We will all be together.

I look back every day,
About the stupid decision we made.
Knowing my life is ruined,
It will never be the same.

If I could have traded places with her,
I would have in a heart beat.
All I have are flashbacks,
Sometimes I can hardly speak.

That night changed my life forever,
I'm at my lowest I've ever felt.
Never again will I drink and drive,
And now I always wear my seat belt.

I hope after you've read this,
You will do the same.
Because at any moment,
Your whole life could change.

Great choice of tipic, I think it is one which needs more awareness of how serious this can be and not only how it will affect your life if you cause an accident but all of those others who then become involved.

Excellent poem, well put together and the flow was fast and flawless. Great job.
