Obstruction of Addiction

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 21, 2012

It seems like every time I build myself back up,
you manage to knock me down.

You tread on me like I mean nothing to you,
and trample me into the dirt.

I am merely an obstacle in your way,
obstructing your liquid prize from reach.

Addiction has taken over you, body mind and soul,
until there is only the craving left.

A brother, a friend, a kindly man
is what you used to be.

A liar, a drunk, a manipulative thief:
is what you have become.

And so here I sit writing this poem for you,
the stranger in my life,

who has become nothing to me.

That's what abusers do, they let you get to the point of where you think you may be okay...be strong enough mentally to move forward to deal with the pain... they knock you back down again, only causing you to start all over again. Knocking ones self esteem down... or knocking them down psychically... both are abuse.

I like the use of 'liquid prize' ... alcohol is a drug in liquid form. It causes nothing but destruction in a relationship/family.

The usage of who he used to be and who he is now is wonderful. It shows that he was once a good man but now since he has became an alcoholic, he is nothing but. It's what defines him.

After so long, they do become nothing to you. You loathe them instead of love.

    Wonderfully done, Saffie!

    Baby R =(

I don't think this is the kind of poem that a person necessarily needs to comment on, in depth.

It is unbelievably freakish, the similarities you and I seem to have.

As usual, your words make me hurt for you.

I sometimes wish that I could grab you, take your hand and let you transfer your pain to me.

    *hugs*
