Christmas time

by DirtRoadGirl   Dec 26, 2012

I watch from across the room,
as you stand beneath the tree;
you pull the gifts out one by one,
handing them to everyone but me.

I watch the way you avoid my gaze,
as you sit down next to her.
Christmas time is a time for love,
and she's got all of your's.

What happened to the blue eyed boy
I met that hot summer day;
to the boy who took my everything,
and promised we would make out okay?

It's been so long since I've tasted your kiss,
and felt your arms around me;
but three Christmas's ago
you promised to always stand beside me.

And things have fallen apart
and we have both moved on,
but while things are very different now,
I'm not sure how to act while we are now apart.

And as I sit across the room,
and you stand beneath the tree,
my heart breaks as you pull the gifts out one by one,
handing them to everyone but me.

My stomach twists as you avoid my gaze,
as you sit down next to her.
Christmas time is a time for love,
and it still saddens me that I no longer have any of your's.
