Identity

I'm hunting down a killer
Who's weapon of choice is a gun.
And if I'm ever to find him,
His killing spree will be done.

His style has been the same
Since the killings began.
And the closer I get to finding him,
the more I seem to know the man.

He's always been one step ahead
But I've stayed on his heels.
Each time he takes a life,
There's more that he reveals.

Now that I've nearly caught him,
He's no longer going to win.
The next time that he attacks,
I'll be there to stop him.

Another girl is dead.
I have arrived too late
But I've finally caught the killer
I'll get to see his face.

He steps out of the shadows,
And I'm shocked by what I see,
a scary realization,
The killer is me.

** I wrote this for a class assignment, we were supposed to channel Edgar Allen Poe. Hope I did him justice. **
