Memories

by Beautiful Chaos   Jan 19, 2013

Are they gone?
Just sleeping in your head,
Every dirty little secret,
That keeps the memory fed,
Every sinful little moment,
Each tainted tear you cried,
Are they buried somewhere in there?
Is this why you hide?

Is it why you run,
Sometimes why you stay?
Are you torn between the measure,
All you want or must betray.
Is there ever any silence,
or only empty chatter?
From these voices in your head,
That scream you just don't matter.

Do you pray or dream or hope?
Are you left with any faith?
Or does happiness now haunt you,
Has light become a wraith?
Do you linger in this darkness,
Dread just what you'll hear,
Fear the things you think you'll learn,
Or what could disappear?

Sometimes I re-read my stuff and wonder is it really poetry? I do not write no where near enough rhyming poems. This poem is a great example to us all of rhyming that is unforced. You see this phrase mentioned often, this is the real evidence. Because of this it flows so naturally without and breaks in the pace. I do enjoy reading poems that ask so many questions. This poem oozes sadness and depression and is relevant to the vast majority of people on this site who question their own ability and their own choices in life. Great write and worthy of 7 points.

Beautiful, and well written. Mirrors so much of what's currently going on in my mind and heart. Especially moved by these lines:

"Or does happiness now haunt you,
    Has light become a wraith?"

I often wish I could write more poetry like this, more precise and clear, more relatable and open, while still touching on a point not often discussed, or admitted as it may be. Well done :)

Hits home. I can't say more than that. Thank you for saying the things I couldn't tell myself.

It's been a long time since I've read your poetry, but this was a truly beautiful piece....I love when there are more than one or two questions because it gives such a thought-provoking effect, and now I'm reflecting on my memories. Do I wish to hide from them? I think we all have those memories from our past we still cringe at, or dislike ourselves for, a moment of weakness...great flow and spoken from the heart. Take care :]
