Permanent Reminders

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 21, 2013

He drilled into my skull
so many threats of
what would be
if my mouth was to speak the truth.

He slapped my face
with so many promises
of what he would do
if I ever escaped his chains.

He scarred me
with so many burns,
to identify me and permanently
remind me of where I belong.

It feels like my freedom
is quickly running out
and slipping through my fingers
like sand.

It is only a matter of time
before he finds me
and sooner or later
I will have to pay.

The story you describe is a familiar one that many women can relate to. As women we love easily and give of ourselves naturally which makes us more vulnerable. Abuse by a mate cause physical scars, but more importantly emotional wounds.

The simplicity of this write is wonderful, but the story is heartbreaking.

    Well penned...5/5
