The Grace of Trees

by Larry Chamberlin   Feb 6, 2013

I come into the woods
not merely to escape
the cares of the city
and the wiles of man.

These living towers,
the trees,
do more than hide
the iniquities
of everyday
existence;
they breathe
and breathing
they enter my soul.

I am renewed
by their quiet repose
in the knowledge
of their being
as they steadily
reach up for the sun
and pass it's warmth
to me in shade.

Gracious....this is beyond beautiful. Such a peaceful read...

I love the story in this...it almost made me wish it was a longer piece, I wanted to know more of what the trees do, what they look like, etc....you drew me into this poem, and your ending was just perfect. I found a little irony there. Shade usually cools people off, so I like your play on words choosing warmth instead.

    Well penned.
