To whom it may concern

by Poet on the Piano   Feb 22, 2013

What if you could only love me
after midnight--- and trying to stutter the
small, omniscient hands of the
grandfather clock would only
kill the sun sooner?

I cannot be saved.
I was never wholly free to escape
with this body, these knots were not meant
for my flammable pulse.

Here, I'll even let you feel the weathered
thud thud- but however deep you go,
there will be no remains of a heart
or its arteries.

If you exhale your light gardenia
breath too often, my personal hell
will ensnare you-
and daylight will be burning through
all memory you kept of ways to
love the dark away.
