Superhero

Where's the ones I dreamed of,

As a hopeful kid?

The ones I knew existed,

If they ever did.

The ones who were there,

When trouble woke from bed.

Were they ever real,

Or only in my head?

I dreamed of them,

Of becoming one.

But have they retired,

Are they finally done?

Were they tired of their job?

Did they exist at all?

Or did they pass unnoticed,

Like many a helpless call?

Though as I look around,

In this world I see today,

If heroes were ever real,

Where are they now today?

I've searched the skies,

Wandered the streets,

Looking for someone,

Who will take on these feats.

Superheroes,

I suppose they've finished.

Like shadows in the day,

We've slowly diminished

Wow this is so powerful. I really like the child-like tone in that they really believe the world is a wonderful place and superheroes are all around us and will protect us, then when we grow older we realise some truths and the cruelness in the world and our beliefs are shattered.

i also got a sense of a hint towards parents. Like they were the ones there when the fears came in the night, perhaps through ightmares, but then as we get older our parents don't seem to soothe us in the same way and perhaps we feel unprotected by them when we thought we would always be.

Very powerful poem and I enjoyed the read. Had a nice beat/flow to it and almost a subtle rhyme pattern throughout. Well done!
