Momma.

by Kelly Lee   Jun 13, 2013

It started when you would lift me up over the fence,
Running to kindergarten I would run through the halls with my best friend Patrick so I could run back home again and tell you all about my day chasing a dragon on a 3 masted pirate ship -
Or you know, whatever it was that we learned that day
And you would always listen to whatever I had to say
Even if you thought I was going mad or starting to lose grip,
You never wanted me to give up on my innocence,
And I'm not just talking about a physical innocence but a mental trusting of the world,
A belief in humanity which the progression of mankind has yet to wither
And I'm so thankful because the forces are strong, they're instinctual, they're binding,
they're universally enlightening but most of all there's a love and passion so deep
seeping from your hugs, your laugh, and that concern in your voice
And we know you want all the goodness of the earth for your children and that's awesome
A bit of five star treatment in this two star society,
I'll give it two stars because the real stars still shine and people are still bright beneath them
But I'll let you know that I pretty much live out of my car and I'm finding the spirit in me stronger than any holy trinity and I may not be the next Oprah Winfrey or business executive staking money,
In fact I don't even have a job or that much money
But I am finding the truth in the discussions I have, in the poems I write, and in the songs that I sing, in the people I kiss, in the family I miss, and from the love that is blooming in this sunlit spring
And I'll have you know I am happy,
I swear by my soul which I nicknamed god, I am happy
So thank you for not sending me to boarding school in 10th grade
It's appreciated, and know that my love for you extends the galaxies and will never alter
And know that I am just exploring the real world, and I'll figure it out
And yes sometimes you all drive me insane but today I am here because of your creation and I wouldn't have it any other way
