Writing Is A Form of Art

by faded flowers   Jun 24, 2013

Writing is a form of art.

You have to open your mind

To new possibilities and experiences

To new people you may or may not like

Writing is a form of art.

New horrors and loves

Heartbreaks and deaths

Piano keys and dusty attics

Writing is a form of art.

Smiles and rope bound tire swings in the summer

What I see, I must show

What I show, you see differently

Cobwebs and pillows

Boxes and letters

Prayers and kisses

Doorknobs and doves

Cold tiles and raindrops

Kidnappings and perfume

Alleys and secrets

Blurry eyes and minute hand on the clock

Writing is a form of art, but a tricky one

Because instead of showing our art to other people

We tell them about it

And let them paint the picture themselves.

Beautiful poem, writing is a form of art, I'm with you all the way on that! This poem to me felt very free and loose, like you are now releasing your thoughts and as you wrote in the opening stanza, opening yourself up to possibilities. That's why writing is so special to me, because it doesn't have any limits. There is always something to say or write about, even if you're confused about it at first.

    "Cold tiles and raindrops
    Kidnappings and perfume
    Alleys and secrets
Blurry eyes and minute hand on the clock"

    - I found this neat how you put these images, kind of mixed, in the middle of the poem....it definitely shows you don't have to have everything clearly laid out in a poem, or make it have a subject and verb. A poem can make you feel tons of emotions and also be in the moment of the scene.

I really liked the perspective you wrote about in the ending too, and I agree, poetry can be interpreted in many different ways especially if the poet is less direct and has hidden meaning between the lines that could make a read take many paths about its words.

    Keep writing!
