Ode to My Mami My Grandma

by GI Jane   Aug 27, 2013

I appreciate the time you took to show me that I was special
Sharing a mango in secret was lyrical
Seeing your smile - fantastical.

Though having been aborted would have been easier
As a grand baby you loved me and as a result I was happier
Since you left me for heaven's gate, it's been tough
Always left feeling as if I wasn't enough.

I miss your surprises to banquets at church
...The thought of me singing for you making me lurch
...Being your tail as you visited churches
...Saving souls and a KFC purchase

You were my life line though I didn't know it.
What did I do to blow it?
God took you away from me when I needed you most.
I don't understand the plans of thee Host.

Almost 29 years since that fateful day
And From you I learned that true love - you must give it away.

But oh how I've missed you since you left me.
You're love was indispensable.
I miss you like no other.
