The Loneliest Man Alive

by Erick Neal   Sep 8, 2013

How do you live....?
How do you go on....?
When do you give up....?
Whenever you are the loneliest man alive.

Smiling he opened the door
to the church and said, "Come on in."
Then he began to talk about the lord.
Somehow he got my attention.
I began to listen.
I called him my mentor,
for he was like a teacher to me.
I could never understand
after all of the pain that he went through.
How someone like him could believe.
I guess it finally caught up with him.
The day I got the phone call
saying that they found him hanging
from a rope with a suicide note.
I broke down and the tears just poured.

How do you live....?
How do you go on....?
When do you give up....?
Whenever you are the loneliest man alive.

So I began to think.
Letting all of my pain get to me.
Just like before I pushed it out.
For the most part I started to feel good again.
Every now and then I began to hurt.
So I write trying to get the pain to go away.
But it stays with me.
I have turned away from God.
How could he let that happen?
I know I shouldn't think like that.
When you are alone you begin to think.
Eventually you let it get to you.
Your heart hardens and become stone.

How do you live....?
How do you go on....?
When do you give up....?
Whenever you are the loneliest man alive.

A tear of pain and sorrow fell from his eye.
As he began to realize how alone he was.
His arms weak and sore.
Stretched opened and nailed.
His back torn to shreds and muscles showing.
As a crown of thorns was pushed down onto his head.
No matter what happened he knew his fate.
The sins of the world bearing down on him.
He cried out to his father one last time,
"Forgive them father, for they not know what they do."
All of the pain he went through,
just for us to be saved.
