Leave

by Forever Hers   Nov 22, 2013

Hollow steps echo off the ground
As words hang in the air,
Empty silences screaming
As each inch away is more than I can bear.

I stand there, mentally begging you to stay
Though a goodbye falls past my lips
As my arm twitches and yearns to reach out
And touch your soft skin.

I hold it tightly to my side, holding my breath
As I watch your back recede into the nature
That makes up your being;
Something I never want to witness.

When you're far enough away,
After you leave, as those words sink in,
I whisper an apology and a declaration of love
Willing the wind to carry it to your ears.

Come what may, but my heart still aches to be next to you,
Telling me of the splendors that come with your hand in mine;
As I watch you leave, as it all fades away,
I cling to that reminder, that dream of mine that lingers
In the back of my mind.
