Pineapple Island

by Andrew Packard   Dec 26, 2013

"Pineapple Island"

Pineapple Island
is just a drive away
But on vacation
Its where I like to stay

The spirit of adventure
is what spurs my soul
drawn to such a quest
a pilgrimage to make you whole

Walking through a tropical jungle
Exhilarating breeze
Crackling tender forest floor
Hear the moving palm leaves?

As the forest trail ends
An old rickety bridge comes into view
romanticized mystery and suspense
are delivered nervously on cue

Now as the path turns wet
I push off my waiting kayak
kneeling grasping wood paddle in palm
Hanging Spanish moss is my aphrodisiac

Almost to my destination
I swim the rest of the way
Worrying what might brush against me
As I sidestroke across the gulf bay

My home away from home
Grass roof and sand for floor
Sounding gulls and rolling surf
Sideways crabs run by my door

The people of Pineapple Island
No longer there, They can't be found
But the fruit it's named after
Still grow abundantly all over the ground....
