Dreadful Nights

by Dominique Lewis   Jan 14, 2014

These nights drag on with not much sleep,
Laying awake thanks to that awful dream,
Covered in a cold sweat and I begin to weep,
Realizing that it wasn't a dream and I scream.

Such dreadful nightmares keep these eyes wide,
So scared to close and to go back to the dark,
Just laid there hopeless and cried,
Terror has left it's hideous mark.

Bags form under my eyes from another sleepless night,
I take another pill to try to make this go away,
Reaching over to the nightstand and turns off the light,
I fold my little hands and start to pray...

Pray for these dreadful nights to stop,
For these eyes to get the sleep they deserve,
Watching the darkness of the room as my eyelids drop,
Try to take my dreams...you don't even have the nerve.

I liked this because as the reader I can understand this right away. This person is consumed with thoughts about a lot and it's leaving them sleepless. Nightmares are always terrible when they are real and I liked that because you played with your characters emotilns well. I can see a lot going on here. I loved the imagery as well because it plays out nicely through out. The tone is sadness until the end and then I can see the character being upset at someone. I loved this overall because it tells a nice story. 5/5

Thanks. I haven't slept much lately and I thought it would be good to write about it.
