Addictive Release

by Baby Rainbow   Mar 5, 2014

I close my notebook and put down my pen,
trying to pretend I have nothing more to say.
But every time I try to walk away, I find
my fingertips caressing the blank pages.

Writing becomes my addiction,
my release,
my only connection with myself.

And I wonder if someday
I will be strong enough
to close this book and walk away,

but for now,
there is still so much I have to say.

I truly love this one. A writer is addicted to writing, we are always thinking of it, jonesing for more topics, more time to write, more more more. It's our release, the one place we can express our feelings and feel completely comfortable. It's also a time when we can find ourselves. I know sometimes I don't even know how I truly feel until I write it down.

The imagery in the first stanza is beautiful and unique. Most poems start out with the idea of opening a notebook and starting to pen a poem... however, you close the notebook. From your words, I can tell you don't want to close it, you want to continue to write because you have much more to day, however you just cannot spend all your time writing otherwise nothing else will get done. The imagery of you caressing the pages with your fingertips is beautiful! It's like your fingers are the pen and your fingerprints are your words.

One day, you wonder if you can beat this addiction to writing and close the book for good, walk away from it and never look back. You are unsure, but for now you still have plenty more to say...and I, for one, am glad. <3

There is always so much we have to say inside of ourselves. Sometimes we have to let it all out. I liked the nice imagery you used here. The way you put your words simply is amazing. You always pick a subject and write about that moment in time. Here this person is writing their feelings out. Satisfied with what they have written they almost want to give it up but know there is so much more they want to say. This poem is very beautiful and you wrote it very well.

Writing is great therapy and it allows us to say things our mouth can't. Never put that notebook down it does bring you inner healing.
