Battle

by Lance Hardy   May 21, 2014

As the warm glow of life fills within
The shade overhead attempts to grow
To try and unyield our major sin
Though through it all, our seeds still sow

We'll join the table to enjoy our victor's feast
As we battle ourselves to feel we've won
Though the one eating heartily is our own beast
Borne within us as we slaughtered each son

One by one by one the pieces fell
Each more innocent than could be imagined last
And as each fell, the memberance but to tell
Was of each scrap of self torn asunder fast

All left over was of fragments 'pon the floor
Mixed and mashed unsure of all there
Though when all was silent and thought knocked at the door
The one truly lost still stood, but with empty stare
