Mommy Dearest

by Donna B   May 29, 2014

This poem is dedicated to survivors of child abuse and neglect.

Mommy Dearest

Mommy dearest
Mommy mad
Mommy blue
Was all I knew

At one I walked
At two I knew
What to expect
As each moment grew

But you were mommy
All I knew
All I loved
As each moment flew

Years went by
And the madness grew
When my baby girl had her first breath
Where were you?

Mommy dearest
Mommy blue
Tormented soul
Was all you knew

When my boy came
Big and strong
And full of life
My feelings were gone

As I knew then
What to expect
Life lessons learned
Without regret

Now the time has come
To say goodbye
I look back and ponder why
Why all the hurt and sadness laid inside

It is now that you have found your peace
Filled with love and understanding
All hate released

Yet I look back and wonder why
Mommy dearest
Mommy so blue
Why oh why?

Mommy dearest
Mommy true
Mommy tender
Mommy ever so blue

What would it had taken for you to have loved me the way that I loved you?
