True Colors

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 13, 2014

We gazed at the orange sunset while we were still friends
Without a single thought about how everything ends
There is only one light but how it sometimes bends
The darkness has no power over what the divine sends

The colors of the rainbow is an illusion we once knew
Sevenfold red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, violet and blue
If I could have I would have sent you them after the flood was through
Though my spine was yellow I would have bled red blood for you

Did we ever know what our illusion was worth
Or were we green with envy as green as the earth
Did we search for gold when we should have sought mirth
Must all colors fade without a lovely rebirth

When I look into the darkness mostly what I see is black
I long for blue skies and I want all my colors back
Somewhere between the indigo and the violet we must lack
Is a path we need to take to get back on the right track

This flows very smoothly.. Brilliant rhyming and I love how you made use of colors as a theme.

"Though my spine was yellow I would have bled red blood for you" -this is amazing. my favorite line.

    Well done! God bless you!
