Choices

My people always told me, "it's not the pen, it's your education that writes the story."

What is at the end of my path?
What kind of career will I have?
I hope to become a chef, a world-renowned cook
Or maybe I'll be an author who writes an unbelievable book
I'll find a career that goes beyond my own expectations-
Something like being an ambassador to one of the world's greatest nations
And I'm smart enough to be a scientist
I'm even good enough to be an artist
I could be an astronaut and travel to a planet far, far away
Or I could stay on earth and just about make a billion dollar's worth
A marine, a cop, someone who saves people's lives
Perhaps I'll be the one who directs the next Desperate Housewives
Maybe I'll be someone who works for several US presidents,
Or I'll work at real estate and help folks find a residence.

I can't be hesitant in my career
I cannot have any fear
I've got to go find it
It could be here, it could be there
But I know it's out there somewhere.
So I'm not worried because my people explained to me,

It's not the pen, it's my education, that will write my history.
