First Fruits

by James Garrett   Dec 18, 2014

When the day is done and all is through,
Did you make certain that you received your due?

I helped others before I met my own need,
And suffered greatly because of their greed.

What help do I get from others indifference?
I want to help but shall I be rewarded and receive my deliverance?

Suddenly a voice small and low,
Said give to yourself the first fruits so you may grow.

It is only then when your needs are acquired,
That you are able to help others and do what is required.

They too must be humble enough from their burden,
To come to me on bended knee to show their plight certain.

This day I know a concordant truth,
I must make myself known lest I myself become obtuse.
