I Used To Know This Place

by Wisdom Kanyone   Dec 29, 2014

I used to know this place.
Some time ago,
I used to walk this street and behold
its blooming soil with a happier gaze.
I used to breathe the perfume in its
flowers,
And my skin used to tinkle with delight
as its sun rays got warmer.
I remember-
How her children's giggle used to ring
through the air,
And peace looked its fattest from inside
here.
Indeed I remember how golden grains of
sand
Used to gather themselves on her
playgrounds.
But that was mother Earth of old;
For all her blooms now seem like crumbs of roses
Dried on a desert road.

The rivers, the tall green trees,
The children, and the smiles that used to
be
Even calm raindrops and the friendly sun
all seem to have gone.
Our crafty speeches and youthfulness
are now made ingredients
For protests and blaring guns.
Everywhere the clouds are turning pale,
And the laughter and greenishness that
once abound,
Gone like the cabins of the Titanic sail.

I used to know this place-
In its young and catwalking days.
And how I wish
She- Earth will go back to being the same-
Back to being beautiful,
Back to being warm and peaceful.
