Time Apart

A kiss goodnight
lands upon the cheeks
of my locked heart.

"It won't be for long, Darling,
soon you will have me back."

My tears and fears were concealed
behind a mask of bravery for you,
and standing beneath the twinkling night,
I waved as I watched you disappear from sight.

Our first time being so many miles apart,
with an unknown plan of your return.
I climbed the stairs, collapsing on our bed
where an envelope caught my eye.

Opening the card, I read the words aloud:

"Don't worry my Darling,
my love is never far away,
for it is always in your heart,
growing stronger every day."
