Concrete pews

by james   Jan 11, 2015

God, give us concrete pews.
clean us of these boring christian hues
of never black and never white but always grey.
break us in a new way.

Give us concrete pews.
we've got the world to lose.
We "pray" but never weep.
our greedy hands money they keep.

God, give us concrete pews.
instead of comfort so we take to our shoes
or fall on our face.
Do what were called to do with haste.

God, rid us of or warm soft pews
and give us instead concrete pews

Such a strong message. I love how much depth and meaning you give to the "concrete pews" and the call to act like true Christians, or acting like genuine people in general, going above and beyond to not be hypocrites but leaders.

One of my favorite lines is: We "pray" but never weep.

I think we all have to pray in our own way. It doesn't have to be a formal "prayer", it can be in our own words, by singing, etc. I know many a times when I have sat in church and sobbed, had nothing to say but those tears said it all I feel like. I think tears show the compassionate, human side to all of us. How we have a soul.

    Powerful write!

Good message. Check the next to last line. I think you meant "our" rather than "or".
