Mud Puddles

by liliumity   Jan 15, 2015

Remember way back then,
when a great ocean of dirt and
water would well up in our huge
front yard after a thunderstorm?
How we would grab our rattiest shoes
and our most ragged pants and run out
the front door, completely unconcerned by
the mosquitoes buzzing at our necks and ticks
dropping down from trees above for a fleshy snack?

I remember how when we were small we would
jump into a mud puddle seeming as big as
the Pacific, uncaring of whatever bugs
or creepers that may've been lurking
inside the murky water. We only
cared about splashing around
and making mudpies - not
bothering with a silly
fear of the things
we couldn't see
and didn't
know.

I dunno. The formatting's weird in this one.
