The Conqueror's Folly

As extravagantly as they can,
the merchants of war and sin
will showcase their faith spectacularly,
so that anyone who watches
would see their piety.

They pray for their sins to be forgiven,
assuming that their future is blessed
with divine love and providence.
On their knees they ask for the will of God
but Metatron does not speak to them.

Expecting silence from the start,
they take pride in their piety.
Arrogantly would they return
to inflicting suffering on others
solely driven by greed.

They are vainglorious hypocrites
who would never even try to love
their neighbours as themselves.
And through devilish schemes
do they binge on material luxuries.

The corpses of lesser men
are piled up into thrones,
where they sit comfortably
rich in evil and rich in wealth,
as their insides rot.

They are completely blind to the irony
of how their piles of earthly blessings
that are anchored to their living bodies
are also anchored to their souls,
making them grow unbearably heavy

by the time their spirit is placed
on the tip of Michael's scale

I'm almost angry that there are no comments on this. This is brilliant!
