Dogwood Tree:

by Scott Cole   May 28, 2015

I am a Dogwood Tree
And yes I have a bark,
It's the dog inside of me
That doesn't like the dark.

Don't you dare kick me
Or jerk me by my limbs,
Cause I'm a Dogwood Tree
I am not a jungle gym.

Don't you whistle at me
And then tell me to sit,
Or point with your finger
And then tell me to split.

Don't get no crazy ideas
And try to climb on me,
And never ever sit on me
Because I am still a baby.

Don't you place a chain
Anywhere around my neck,
Because it can choke me
And put me on the deck.

It's ok to play with me
As long as you are easy,
Don't awake the dog within
Or things could get breezy.

So you stay in your yard
And I will stay in mine,
Try to keep your bark down
And things will be just fine.

For that sun high above
It wll shine all over me,
Bet you want see no ticks
Cause I'm a Dogwood Tree.
