The Promise

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Jun 8, 2015

She knows it's only been a little while
But she can't remember the last time she really smiled
Words meant nothing, feelings didn't exist
But somehow, she's never been so easily convinced

So close to his lips, not sure if she should do the deed
Desire's knocking, but she knows she shouldn't answer the door
But there's something about him she simply can't ignore
And she's just itching to learn a little more

But he won't let her in
He's afraid of his own heart
She promises she won't ever hurt him
Because she knows how it is to be left in the dark
To be completely torn apart

But she's scared, too
She knows this world can be a little cruel
Smiles were fake, tears were hidden
But somehow, she's still forgiven

His eyes can't seem to be kept off her face
So close to his body, she knows she shouldn't touch
She swears on her life that she's in love
But he believes that it just isn't enough

She knows how it feels
To think something is real
Then to open your eyes to something so harsh
Time is what he really prefers
But somehow she knows that he is hers
She won't give up because she's already this far
far
