Hidden Conditions

My promise of love
came with no hidden conditions,
no secret time restrictions written in small print;
they simply came straight from my heart.

I never asked you to love me-
that choice was yours alone,
however, I did ask you not to love me
if there was a chance you would give up and walk away.

But you convinced me to take a chance
in a sea of sharks, and trust someone
for one last time -

and as I sit here,
picking up all of the pieces of my broken heart,
I wonder why after building up all of my walls,
what made you so different
that I let you knock them down?
