Nothing Less Would Do!

To be with you,
I shan't be your shadow,
Growing or receding as it fancies the light .
Because
I want to be that life sustaining breath
Which you breathe in all the time.

To be on your mind,
I shan't be just a memory
To be locked away inside
Because
I'd rather be the humor
That you love to seek around
And be the crinkling of your eyes
When laughter makes the round.

To sense your touch, to be loved by you,
I shan't be just a body,
Suspended somewhere in time,
Because
I'd rather be the rain that drenches you,
And be the breeze that ruffles your hair,
While in solitude you wander here and there.

To meet you each day,
And to be together always
I shan't travel all the way
Because
I'd rather be the rays of dawn,
Kissing you awake each morn.
And be that space within you,
where each night you come to repose.

So my dearest beloved,
Nothing less would do!
I shan't be happy with mortal excuse,
Because
I'd rather be alone than together,
If I can't go all the way with you.
