Christmas hair

by Yakari Gabriel   Dec 10, 2015

I know that my mother,
is very anxious to see me.
the same way I know
that when the 25th of December
walks in- as white and as supremacist
as she does every year.

My mother will bow to her presence
and in return, ask me 'no te piensas
arreglar ese pelo para la navidad?'
and I'll reply like I have been
rehearsing four months to say it:
'La manera en que otros definen
lo que es pelo bueno, hace mucho
que no importa'

----------------

'no te piensas
arreglar ese pelo para la navidad?'

(are you not thinking of fixing your hair for christmas)

'La manera en que otros definen
lo que es pelo bueno, hace mucho
que no importa'

(the way in which other define what is good hair,
hasn't interest me in a very long time)
