Drink of Immortality

by TheMask   Jan 9, 2016

This desired elixir is so hard to find
Men search their entire feeble lives
To only obtain a measly drop
Yet, here I am
Thanks to you
Pulling it out, again
To squander it further
Just to survive the night

Gulping down ounce after ounce
Of this famed liquid
Intoxicating every fiber of my body
Only to make it through the day

Though it was your mistake
I dearly pay for it
Each night sleepless as the rest
Each day horrible as the last

I checked on you recently
Sleeping pleasantly
That's all you do
As your lips turn blue

You took a gun
You pulled
You now sleep eternally
Your desired fulfilled
I took a cup
I guzzled
I now live eternally
My dread brought about

This elixir, I hate, that you gave me,
This cursed object that men kill for
This harbinger of death that brings eternal life
I, now, cram down
To stop myself
From following your footsteps

Wow, Reece, I'm sorry that this is what came out of our... horrible inspiration.

Stunning write though. . . One of my favorite from you - no matter how heartbreaking.
