My Friend

by Hawkeye14   Jun 5, 2016

There will come a time,
that he will hear her again.
But knows its not tonight,
until he hears her his friend.

They'd grown together,
never told the wrongs.
Any storm they'd weather,
shed already gone.

If told the wrongs,
if he had inquired.
Would she still be gone,
what would have transpired.

Together till the end,
chose each other again.
If we make amends,
forgive me my friend.

The moments are passing,
gone in this earth.
A man everlasting,
before turning to dirt.

Life will go on,
he will not stop fighting.
Until his days have gone,
and so he keeps writing.

There will come a time,
that he will see her again.
But knows its not tonight,
until he sees her his friend.

Back to the start,
looking to the sky.
An ache in his heart,
for the beauty in her eyes.

The man comprehends,
he must let her go.
He'll love till the end,
she'll always know.

There will come a time,
that he will see you again.
But knows its not tonight,
until he sees you his friend.

The world spins round,
and he will not cease.
Turning to a mound,
in this he finds peace.

Not giving up on young love,
until that fruitful day.
for he had found true love,
or told to go away.

There will come a time,
that he will see you again.
But I know its not tonight,
until I see you my friend.

Take a gamble on our hearts,
waiting for a chance to come.
I've gone through the dark,
and wait to show you who I've become.

Took a chance on a wedding band,
I know we were young.
If you see me I'll understand,
only we know what we could become.

There will come a time,
that I will be with my friend.
But I know its not tonight,
until I can be with you again.

XXXXX Jean.
I'll see you again.
Love in my dreams.
My dearest friend.

Hawkeye.. I would take the chance and send it to them. Then at least your not sitting there in 30 years time wondering what if you had..
It will be hard and it is risky, and they may reject it.. but at least you know and can move on.. :)

Any suggestions of whether or not too send the poem to a former lover or to hold onto them for myself?

Hello Hawkeye and a belated welcome to the site.

This is an excellent post from you - so melodic, I could almost imagine singing along to it, especially with the repetition of that stanza which acts almost like a chorus.

    Great stuff and keep writing,

    Ben
