Not even five

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Aug 4, 2016

Not Even Five

Not even five and we must part
The end has come it breaks my heart
A grandpa's love a mothers tears
Cannot restore the future years

Although he's gone his memory lives
Alas, no little arms with hugs to give
A flame snuffed out, the light is gone
The memory of your love lives on

With broken hearts and heads hung low
Sorrow breaks and tears will flow
His little life it is no more
Now he's knocking on heavens door

You'll know love and joy for eternity
Oh Jesus how he will learn from thee
To praise our Father, the most high
Because you're gone not even five.

Till we meet again
Rest safe in the arms of Jesus.

    Hello Grant,

sorry for this belated reply - I didn't realise from the title its contents.

Death is always a sad, but no more so when it happens early in a life. Children are our future, so not reaching the tender age of 5 is wrong on all accounts. I feel for you and of course to the family who will never forget the treasure they have lost to heaven.

You've made a good job of expressing how the family feel - I am sure you touched the spot that needed to cry.

    Take care,

    Michael

Thank you yes im good friends with the little boys grand dad and was asked hours before the funeral if i could possibly write something.
This was difficult for me feeling emotional about this at the time because this poor boy had led a lofe of abuse and died from a blow to the head by the mother boyfriend.
It still affects me when i think about it.
    Thank you again
    Regards

    Grant,

It seems insulting to break this down technically, so all I will say is that the flow is very well done indeed with some effortless rhyming.

As for the content, it is moving beyond words and if literal, you have my sincerest sympathy.
