God's poker face

by Annie Bill   Aug 24, 2016

I played a game of cards with God on the day that I was born,
And I couldn't win a single hand,
He was cheating I could've sworn.
He dealt me with a Queen and my heart began to sing!
At last I thought I'd get a chance in life,
Until He beat me with a King.
But, then one day some time ago...
He blessed me with His graces,
Because on that day my Luke was born,
I knew I had 4 Aces!!
Nowadays I know that always is what I must do,
Because if I cheat or mess up this deal or lose a single hand,
Then its odds on a guarantee that this time I'll also lose you.
So listen up My darling Luke do not ever doubt me
Because God knows I cannot or will not cheat,
Your the only thing I've ever got right you see,
And I know that with you in my life,
I'd never feel complete! !

Annie, what a fantastically written piece about finding that special someone and having children, as Sir L from that moment no more mistakes though some do make them.

    All the best, Em

Hello Annie and welcome to the site.

This poem is very good and reminded me a little of myself. I have to confess to being a bit of a tearaway in my youth and made a fair few mistakes, but then I met my wife and had children and everything changed.
As you point out, there's no more room for errors from that point on as the loss of a child's love would be something most parents simply couldn't live with.
Well done on this and keep writing,
