Dear Lady...

by Brandon Evans   Jul 9, 2004

Her face pale from deception
Fake smiles; she couldn't pretend
A naive heart given freely
stands broken, once again.

His promises of love and affection
Words, deep only as skin
Left empty spaces deep in her heart
And her bed, where his body once been

She swore to herself, never again
The last time would truly be the last
Overpowered by allure and seduction
Inadvertently reliving her past

A shallow heart and mind
Masqueraded by misleading charm
Pleasure was all he came for
Didn't matter if it caused her harm

She gave to him her all
Asked nothing but love in return
Given naught but fallacious hope
Her feelings didn't warrant concern

Life and hope slipping slowly
Through hours by phone that she spends
Callously oblivious to her passions
His time spent chasing her friends

A broken heart can be unbearable
Pressure, like the weight of the world
But out of the ashes of love's burnt flame
Her heart will once again swirl

While tears may seem consuming
A smile soon replaces her frown
As long as she keeps faith in herself
No man will ever keep her down

Great poem, Brandon. You did an excellent job of presenting a woman's point of view... I bet you are a terrific friend!
