Twig

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 17, 2018

It started with a promise so long ago,
words wrapped up in roses
as you promised to never leave me.

If only you kept that promise.

Instead, here I am,
delivering another broken heart
into my grave of backfired attempts.

I believed you signed this contract for life,
I put all my faith in us,
but I guess you signed with pencil -
knowing you were going to erase me out,
tear me apart and then leave.

You snapped every promise like a winter twig,
leaving me devastated that not a single word of your love was true -
and for the first time since you left,
I have figured out that no one could ever hurt me like you did,
no one could ever leave me this lost,
drowning inside a stranger's heart
that I will never again recognise as my own.
