The Undertow

by stormingdance (Lessa)   Jul 14, 2019

Even though the sound of my cries
Can only be heard in my mind
I know the darkness that is the skies
Can feel the pain that leaves my heart blind

Even though my tears remain unshed
I know the rivers heed my soul's woes
I find peace with my toes in the riverbed
As I lose myself to the undertow

Right away, from your title and the tone of the piece, my mind automatically went to Linkin Park's "Numb". It's so haunting (and terrifying) how we can cry inside yet be silent to others. How we only hear it, how we feel even more alone from that. I especially liked your image of not crying physical tears but seeing and knowing your woes are in the river, like the river has understood parts of your soul. That it is much more heavy and deep than tears that drip down our cheek. An emotional piece. Take care <3

Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands. Literally cried when Chester passed away. Their music helped me through my darkest times.

So honestly I'll take that as a great compliment. That my work could resonate on that level.

Thank you and you take care as well!
